| Bio: | Name: Maria What world they came from: Silent Hill 2 and the sub scenario 'Born From a Wish' Birthday (if known): Unknown Age: 25, as stated in the instruction manual and in 'Book of Lost Memories', a Silent Hill companion guide released by Konami. Occupation: Exotic Dancer Appearance: Maria is a striking woman with short blond hair that's tipped with pink, blue eyes, and pale skin. Her face is heart-shaped and rounded, and she wears a good deal of makeup. She's rather Botticellian in figure - soft and rounded and full figured. Despite her occupation, Maria is not exactly a tiny, slim woman. She has a tattoo of a butterfly on her hip, and tends to dress in clothing that borders on provocative. Special abilities/talents: Maria has no real applicable 'special abilities'. Despite being created by the town of Silent Hill, she's a relatively ordinary woman. The closest we see is that she can hear and speak with restless spirits. As for normal talents: she can aim and shoot a gun well enough, she's in good physical shape, and obviously she dances well. She has a good sense of direction, can solve puzzles rather well - the Born From a Wish scenario, where Maria is the playable character, has a few puzzles she's required to solve - and has a knowledge of the occult. Quirks: Maria plays with her hair often, is extremely physical - touches people when speaking to them - and she never seems to be able to focus on one thing for very long. Her eyes move around often when she's not talking to someone, and she shifts her weight from foot to foot, lending an almost impatient air to her demeanor. Personality: Maria is a complex woman, despite being a side character who isn't technically a real person. She shows maternal instincts in her desire to protect and look out for Laura, and is clearly a caring and compassionate woman. Despite teasing James and sometimes seeming cruel to him, she shows a caring for him and desire to be with him that goes beyond simply her purpose for creation. She is told he's a 'bad man', and she knows why, yet she still wants to help him and be with him. She also does all she can to help reunite the spirit of a grief stricken man with his daughter, despite there being no reason for her too. Quite the opposite - Ernest, the spirit, is cruel to her and malicious and just an unpleasant entity. But she still goes out of her way and risks her own existence to help him and help him come to terms with his daughter's death. She's plagued by self doubt in her own game - BFaW - brought on by her knowledge of why she exists. She wants to be more than just a manifested desire. She insists she's her own person, even when presented with evidence to the contrary. She has a desire to live, as evidenced by her rejection of how she came to be and why, and her rejecting suicide when she realizes she's along in a town full of monsters and ghosts and other insanity. And the times we see her killed, she is distressed and afraid. Obviously, there is a sensual side to Maria. She dresses provocatively in a short skirt and high boots, and her dialogue with James is often laced with innuendo. But it's honestly a very small part of her, seen only in a few scenes with James when he's particularly weak. Despite her profession and taste in clothes, Maria's sensuality is almost professional in a sense. She turns it on when need be, and she does indeed use her looks and charms to get her way, but only in specific circumstances. She's also quite stubborn, and will not give in on an issue. This is evidenced in her interactions with Ernest Baldwin. Despite him telling her to go away and leave him alone numerous times, she doesn't give up because she so surely believes he wants human companionship despite his protests. Sexual orientation: Maria is predominantly heterosexual. While she only interacts with one character, she's obviously attracted to James. I know this is because she was created to be attracted to him, but it's a pretty clear clue as to her sexual orientation. Though because she's an idealized version of James' wife, there is a 'wild' side to her, and the idea of being with another woman for her lover's pleasure/having a threesome with another woman wouldn't bother her. But it's nothing she'd seek out on her own. Reputation: Maria only interacts with two other people that we see. She really doesn't have much of a reputation, other than being a colossal mind-fuck. She only interacts with two people - a deceased, unseen spirit and James himself. Ernest sees her as a means to an end, a tool he can use to gather the supplies he needs for a ritual, and James' opinion of her changes entirely over the course of the game. The 'real' Maria - an actual real life dancer at Heaven's Night named Lady Maria, who it is believed inspired James' delusion - is a well liked and popular woman in the town of Silent Hill. | |||||||||
